The University of Wisconsin Business School received a rare and prestigious designation yesterday from the Charter Financial Analyst Institute.

The Applied Security Analysis Program of the UW School of Business became the third program in the United States — and only the 16th in the world — to be named a Charter Financial Analyst Program Partner by CFA.

Four other business school programs were named CFA Program Partners yesterday at schools in France, South Africa and the United Kingdom.

Saíd Business School at the University of Oxford was the first CFA partner when the partnership program was launched in early April of this year.

"Partnering with the CFA Institute is further demonstration of the outstanding academic and professional qualifications of our graduates," UW Business School Dean Michael Knetter said in a release.

According to the company's website, the CFA institute "publishes research, conducts professional-development programs and sets voluntary, ethics-based professional and performance-reporting standards for the investment industry."

CFA President Michael Warmuth said UW's Applied Security Analysis Program is highly successful.

"It seems like a natural fit for the CFA program to be involved with," Warmuth said.

As a result of being named a CFA Program Partner, the UW Master of Business Association program will incorporate new global business concepts significant to the CFA Institute.

Jonathan Schuster, former president of CFA, said upon completing the UW MBA program, students "should have gone through the Applied Security Analysis Program as well as having completed the content and acquired the skills necessary to work towards and complete the CFA charter."

Though no grant is directly involved in the partnership program, Schuster added, there are grant scholarships awarded to individuals pursuing the CFA charter.

The CFA partnership program has enthusiastic support from many people at the UW School of Business.
