Police have been unable to locate the man who assaulted a 22-year-old woman in her West Gorham apartment early Friday morning.
According to police, the female resident awoke just before 5 a.m. to find an unknown male in her bedroom. The suspect was on top of the female while she was sleeping, but fled immediately after she woke up.
The victim ran out of the residence after the suspect fled on foot and was able to describe him as a white male, unknown age, six to six feet three inches tall with a muscular build.
There were no signs of forced entry into the residence, and the victim was unsure if the door to the apartment was locked when she went to sleep.
Two other roommates of the victim were in the apartment at the time of occurrence but were not assaulted by the suspect.
Police are also reminding citizens to make sure their doors and windows are locked while asleep or out of the house.
