Robbie Webber is the new alder for District 5, but opponent Jason Stephany is still proud of his campaign?s effort.
?We?re obviously disappointed in the results; I think that we?re just really proud of the campaign that we?ve run,? said Stephany. ?For a campaign that was run by a group of 20-somethings, it was an extremely professional campaign, and we?re really proud of the work that we did.?
Stephany, a 20-year-old student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, also talked about his campaign?s difficulties with the age factor.
?If you go around the district and you talk to voters and talk to people who were involved, a lot of them will say that I was great on the issues and they thought that I would make an excellent Council member, but their issue was that I was 20 years old,? Stephany explained.
Stephany thought that he had an edge over Robbie Webber when it came to his ability to represent the entire district and his ability to listen and work with the City Council.
?There were a number of groups and organizations that came out to support me because they knew that I was willing to listen,? Stephany said. ?I was willing to sit down, listen to their concerns and find the best solution to a problem.?
Brian Jenks, a supporter of Stephany and UW sophomore, backed Stephany.
?He?s running to work with the City Council and improve life for students,? Jenks said. ?Also there is no undergrad on the Council, and there needs to be.?
?I?ve been very active in politics, and I will continue to stay active,? Stephany said. ?A large amount of my work has been done behind the scenes, a staffer to the candidate; I?m definitely going to continue to do that. Maybe someday soon or maybe a little bit further in the future, I do think I?ll be running again.?
