Tuesday night members of Associated Students of Madison met to recommend the appointees to the ASM Financial Committee and the Student Segregated Fees Committee.
After passage of a bylaw requiring ASM screening of candidates for these committees at the final meeting of ASM’s eighth session, the seven judges interviewed 22 of the 24 applicants.
“[Applicants] needed to have experience that was applicable to the real world, whether it be through student groups or other budgetary experience,” said ASM Vice Chair Emily McWilliams.
The delegating committee said budgetary experience and previous involvement in student organizations are required for consideration, though experience with both is not necessary.
“To be on SSFC or FC you must have some working knowledge of what these committees do,” McWilliams said.
ASM Chair Bryan Gadow and L&S representative Carl Camacho both said they were excited about the applicant pool.
“The general pool was very balanced this year,” Gadow said. “There were a lot of people with various experience.”
Camacho said they chose the most qualified and representative students.
“The people chosen in the end were very qualified,” Gadow added.
The four appointees for SSFC are Mark Baumgardner, Cate Dobyns, and former ASM members Jason Davis and Faith Kurtyka.
The five individuals appointed to serve on the Financial Committee are Louis Agnello, Fatima Ashras, Brad Schuth, Steve Singh and Rob Welygan.
Camacho said he and the other judges were required to select the representatives for these committees this week because SSFC meets Thursday to select its chair. The Financial Committee will meet at a later date to internally select its chair.
