Student Services Finance Committee cancelled their Wednesday evening meeting, where members planned to discuss the internal budgets of the Associated Students of Madison.
Although SSFC Chair Lamont Smith told members the meeting was cancelled because of scheduling problems, SSFC member Matt Modell said other issues played into the cancellation.
State law stipulates agendas for ASM meetings must be filed 24 hours prior to the meeting.
Modell said Smith had not filed the agenda by 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, which would have been 24 hours prior.
“At 8:22 he was posting the agenda, the meeting was supposed to be at 6, he tried to post it at 8:20 and didn’t tell anyone that he was going to be breaking state law,” Modell said. “I talked to him and told him we can’t break the law—these laws are here for a reason.”
ASM chair Jessica Miller said she heard nothing of problems filing the agenda on time.
“I was told it was cancelled because of scheduling conflicts,” she said.
Miller also said the postponing of the meeting will not harm ASM or students.
As of press time, Smith could not be reached for comment.
