The City Council’s 2000 campaign spending report, which was due July 20 reveals interesting results in the latest aldermanic election.
Ald. Brenda Konkel, District 2, won her seat on the council despite being outspent in a near 3-1 margin.
Konkel spent $4,436 and her opponent Rex Loehe spent $11,535 on the election, but Konkel beat Loehe by a 55 percent to a 45 percent margin.
Konkel replaced Ald. Barbara Vedder, who retired.
In the District 8 race, Ald. Todd Jarrell spent $5,845 to beat incumbent Mike Staude by a 68 percent to 32 percent margin.
Staude has not yet filed his report, which is in violation with state law and the Dane County District Attorney is asking to prosecute.
In the District 5 race, Jessy Tolkan spent $3,728 to Andy Nathan’s $2,665 and also beat him by a 68 percent to 31 percent margin.
However, Dane County Sup. Tom Powell was appointed the District 5 seat when Tolkan could not accept because of a lawsuit over her residency.
Mayor Sue Bauman raised $13,795 during the reporting period, which brings her to a total of $34,159 for the 2003 election.
