Blank was a member of President Barack Obama's economic team, where she concentrated on job creation and economic growth in the past two years. She said the Department of Commerce is similar to the university in terms of budgets creation and strategy setting.
Blank served as Under Secretary of Commerce for Economic Affairs of the DOC in 2009. Before her involvement with the DOC, she was a professor of public policy and economics at University of Michigan and former dean of the School of Public Policy. Blank was a chancellor finalist at UW-Madison in 2008 and lost to Biddy Martin.
Before his years serving as the dean at Johns Hopkins, Jones worked at the University of Illinois department of civic engineering. Despite his background in science and engineering, Jones said he values the liberal arts education and would lead with a collaborative style.
He came to the Unites States from his native New Zealand to earn his masters and doctoral degrees from the California Institute of Technology in 1981 and 1986.
At Johns Hopkins, Jones designed undergraduate educational programs that were well received and strongly supports international research collaboration as well as international education opportunities.
He emphasizes the role of fundraising and alumni engagement in sustaining the quality of the university. Before his position at the University of Chicago, Schill also served as the dean of the University of California Los Angeles School of Law, where he had extensive experience with fundraising operations.
He gained experience with science and technology enterprise while serving on the board of the Argonne National Laboratory, a leading research institute. Schill chaired the Council of Professional School Deans at UCLA. He said the role allowed him to understand issues facing each professional school at the institution.
Wilcox said collaboration is key to successful leadership and his job as the dean was to ensure different parts of the university understand each other. Wilcox also served as dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and vice provost for general education coordination at the University of Kansas from 2002 to 2005.
He reformulated student support programs at MSU and initiated an effective transitioning program for incoming students. Wilcox was a finalist for the chancellor position at the University of Hawaii-Manoa in 2012.
