We might implement hierarchical threaded commenting sitewide soon, and as part of the upgrade, commenters could be able to log in to comment using their Facebook, AIM, Yahoo! or Wordpress accounts. This might mean we would have to drop support for our current login system. EDIT: Either way, anonymous posting will be preserved.
Please leave comments below expressing your preference with reasons:
Option A: I want to log in with my Facebook, AIM (coming soon), Yahoo! or Wordpress account, or comment anonymously, and I want to be able to reply to specific comments directly.
Option B: Not being able to log in with the current system would be too inconvenient. Keep old login system and don’t upgrade.
Any other feedback is welcome as well. Thank you!

Please don't do it. Better monitoring would get rid of the hatred on the board, and people would still be free to voice unpopular opinions without the threat of retaliation.
If the ability to comment freely goes away, the BH is as worthless as the Cardinal.

If you can't "comment freely" without signing your name at the bottom, maybe you'd be better off not posting. That's not BH's fault.

Do not do it. While there are clearly problems with anonymous posting, it is vital. It allows ppl to voice comments that are unpopular and politically incorrect that may still be valid. By doing this you are mandating conformity and lessening the power of the comment boards.

I'm confused, if the new system is put in place you would still be able to make anonymous postings correct? If this is true, then it should be updated. If it will not allow anonymous postings then obviously it is a bad idea.

We are not going to get rid of anonymous posting. That is far too valuable for many reasons. We may, however, allow comments that are "authenticated" to be published automatically, and still hold the anonymous ones for moderation as all comments are currently held on most of the site.

That seems like a bad idea from a liability pov for the Herald (think defamation). Allowing immediate posting might seem like it's advantageous but you're exposing yourself potentially without something in the TOS that would limit it.

The proposed system seems far better to me. If you can still post anonymously, what argument is there against switching?
