This Saturday at Union South's Club 770, the Wisconsin Union Directorate Music Committee is hosting the jubilant return of one of ska's most loved bands, Mustard Plug. From Grand Rapids, Mich., this dynamic punk/ska group has been rocking crowded, sweaty, enthusiastic venues all over world since 1991, proving to be one of the oldest and most revered ska bands around.

Touring in the United States, Europe, Japan, South America and even joining the ranks of bands playing Warped Tour in 2002, Mustard Plug has been established as a conscientious staple of the punk world, especially with their powerful stage presence and indiscriminate, beguiling sense of fun. Even in their 16th year, this band has continued to impress music lovers of all backgrounds as their sound gets more mature while still maintaining a youthful energy that is profoundly appreciated.

With a trombone, trumpet and keyboard player coming together to form heavily accented offbeats, Mustard Plug has been able to retain its resonant and bright third-wave ska feel throughout the years. After releasing their sixth full-length album In Black and White in mid-September, the band is kicking off its Midwest tour in Madison this weekend at a performance that is sure to be intensely energized, full of soaring, catchy horn parts and punchy beats that won't allow you to stand still.

Accompanying Mustard Plug will be openers Plunket and Offend Your Friends. Fond du Lac, Wis.-based Offend Your Friends performs in the ska tradition with pop-infused saxophone lines, fast-paced lyrics and playful, distorted guitar riffs. Other opener Plunket hails from the suburbs of Chicago as an upbeat powerpop ensemble well known for their classic punk vocals and up-tempo keys, which come together for a fresh, exciting sound.

Mustard Plug's show is all ages and free, and bands will begin at 9:30 p.m.
