The cocktail lounge was born in the 1950s. In an era of Cold War anxiety mixed with a post-war fever for leisure, the lounge was a welcome release, a place where swingin’ hepcats could sip their martinis and enjoy the sounds of Frankie and Dean on the hi-fi. It’s cool, daddy-o!
Soaked in the cocktail tradition of 50 years ago, the Blue Velvet Lounge, which opened last August, brings the unique bar culture of the past into the 21st century. An escape from the typical bar scene, the Blue Velvet serves up lounge-style strong and straight up.
Dark and mysterious, sexy and seductive, the Blue Velvet is a voyage for the visual senses on many levels. The first-floor bar is bathed in blue, from the blue neon lights emanating beneath the sleek, long bar, to the blue pendant spotlights along with another band of blue neon from the ceiling.
